GoldenEye Strategy Guide
Quick Tips
In order to sucsessfully complete GoldenEye, and to complete certain levels, you'll need to know
some basic moves and tips:
Strafe:
- To side-step (strafe) to avoid shots, etc.. Press the left or right C buttons.
Lean:
- A useful technique, used for darting from behind corners, and ducking
back. Hold R and C Left or C Right to duck out, and let go of both the
buttons to duck back. Excellent in tough situations.
Crouch:
- Useful in some places, and sometimes necessary, hold R and C-Down to
crouch, and let go to stay down. Press R again to get up.
Some other tips are useful:
-
Reload often. Sometimes when facing a new lot of enemies, it is useful to reload. Press A to
reload.
- Sometimes; well most of the time, it pays to just shut up. Use your silenced guns where possible,
so as not to alert the whole army. Oh, and a word of advice: don't use the Klobb. Ever. It's crap.
- You might need to put away your gun completely (like on the Statue level) when it's needed.
Simply switch to Unarmed.
- I have heard some ridiculous things said about GoldenEye. One of which says 'don't stand next to boxes or barrels,
they will hurt you'. If you're near them when they blow up then, yes, they will hurt you. But otherwise they won't.
So remember this -- don't beleive anything you hear. But you can beleive what I'm writing, of course.
- When in the vicinity of a camera, don't stand around, otherwise the alarm will go off. Try and shoot it in it's screen,
but don't wait for it to turn if you can hit another part of it.
- Windows: Windows can be very useful (I mean in the game, not the operating system). For example, cameras can't see through the windows
in doors, neither can guards. Which makes them very useful.
But be warned -- cameras CAN see through large panes of glass. So can guards.
- Most of the time when you fire a loud gun, it makes a real racket and everybody can hear you. But if you fire 1 round (1
bullet) instead of a few, you'll be surprised when they don't hear it. A useful place to use this is on Bunker 2, and on the Aztec
level when you're up at Jaws. Fire one bullet from the AR33 at the guard near him, at his head. Make sure the guard can't see you, and
Jaws or anyone else won't hear.
- Use a combination of tactics. Use strafing and running, instead of straight running, etc...
- Check your weapons and gadgets often. ALWAYS check your inventory at the start of a new level (if you don't know what
you have) and through the game, as you might notice some things there that you didn't notice before.
Apart from that, you just might need to practice. Be quiet, be sneaky, and don't use the Klobb.
Good luck!
